Practical Test - The Basics

The Practical Test allows you to demonstrate to the examiner how

you tackle all the elements of driving. The examiner will judge your

knowledge of the road and whether you can drive safetly. It brings

together theory and practice.

The driving test consists of a drive of approximately 35-40 minutes, on roads of varying speed limits. Throughout the drive you will be given directions in good time as to where to go. You will also be asked to perform various manoeuvres. The examiner will chose two at random; turn in the road, reverse around a corner and reverse parking (parallel parking or reversing into a parking bay). One in three tests will have an emergency stop. You will be told the result of the test at the end and will be offered a debrief whether you pass or fail.

On the day!

At Larr School of Motoring I will prepare you fully for your practical test.

It is recommended that students take their practical test in my car - it is realiable and fully insured for the purpose. You can opt to take the test in your own car but if it does not meet the necessary standard then your test will be cancelled. The practical test starts with an eyesight test and the examiner will ask you questions about the maintenance/safety of the car. You will be asked to explain and point out and I will help you to understand the basics in preparation for this.

Contrary to popular belief this test is very fair, the examiner is there to pass you not to fail you, providing that you drive to the required standard. Therefore I will not advise you to take a test if I do not think you have reached this standard.

Before you can book a driving test you must pass the theory test.

To book a practical driving test you can telephone the D.S.A on 0300 2001122 , ask me for an application form or book online.
